A scavenger/bottle collector in Pattaya was slashed in the back with a knife by a stranger who had just asked to join in drinking liquor with him.
The incident was reported to Sawang Boriboon rescuers at 10:30 PM yesterday, May 24th. The rescuers aided a Thai man named Mr. Banyat Pholdee, a 48-year-old scavenger, who had sustained a deep gash inflicted by a chopping knife in his back.
The victim was found with his sister in the middle of Soi Nongprue 3 within the Nongprue sub-district of Banglamung district. According to him, he and his unidentified sister were trying to get to a hospital to get his agonizing wound treated but Mr. Banyat could not withstand the pain so they stopped to call for medical assistance.
Regarding the incident, Mr. Banyat said he, his sister, and his brother-in-law, went to fish at a canal in Soi Nongprue 3. While they were drinking alcohol together after finishing, the group was approached by a tall, dark-skinned Thai stranger with a shaved head who asked to join them in drinking. The unidentified man also offered to contribute money to buy alcohol, Mr. Banyat noted.
When the first set of alcohol ran out, Mr. Banyat’s sister and brother-in-law went out to buy more. During their absence, however, the aforementioned man became agitated for unknown reasons and suddenly struck the injured person from behind with a chopping knife and then escaped. The blow left a large gash on the victim’s back.
Mr. Banyat was rushed to a local hospital by Sawang Boriboon rescuers. Meanwhile, Pattaya Police are working on identifying the suspect as of press time.
