A Chinese businessman was found dead with more than 20 stab and slash wounds at a resort in Mueang Trang.
The Mueang Trang Police were notified of the incident on Tuesday afternoon (May 16th) at a resort in the Tub Tieng sub-district.
They and emergency responders arrived at the resort to find the body of a 43-year-old Chinese man (Mr. Zhirui Li) inside a bathroom. He was face down wearing only a towel and covered in blood.
More than 20 stab and slash wounds were found on his body including his chest. Police believe that the Chinese man had died at least 12 hours before his body was found. Numerous empty beer bottles were found nearby along with six unused condoms.
Staffers at the resort told Thai police that at about Noon today, May 16th, a room cleaner called Mr. Liu’s phone number which he gave to staff when he checked-in as he did not check out before noon. After nobody picked up the call the cleaner knocked on the door of the room and there was still no answer.
The unidentified cleaner told the resort manager she was entering the room before opening the door. She found some blood in front of the bathroom but was afraid to go inside and she called another staffer to look inside the shower area.
The body of Mr. Liu was discovered and Thai police were called at this point.
Staffers told police that the Chinese man checked in the room with someone described only as a ‘Thai female friend’. They went into the room at 4:15 P.M. on Monday (May 15th). His mobile phone and a sedan were missing, having not been found in the room or the resort. Police are now hunting for the Thai female but have not yet to identify her to the public, despite having a solid clue as to her identity according to their statements.
Police found that the Chinese man was a businessman who exported rubber and wood in Trang and nearby provinces. He always stayed at this resort when on vacation, according to resort staff. He also had a house on Lanta Island.
He was an ex-pat and also had a Thai wife from Trang and three Thai children. His wife later came to see his body at the resort but did not comment on the situation or the possible identity of the suspect due to her grief. Her full name was withheld for the privacy of the family.
