Leader Pita of Move Forward Party Declares Thailand Election Victory

Thailand –

The Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat, 42, on Monday (May 15th) declared a victory after the unofficial Thai general election vote count released by the Election Commission (EC).

As of the latest update at 9:57 AM from the EC, the Move Forward Party leads in party-list followed by the Pheu Thai Party and the Bhumjaithai Party.

The unofficial vote result shows that the Move Forward Party had won 14,136,838 million votes for party-list and 112 out of 400 constituency members of parliament seats.

Meanwhile the Pheu Thai Party had 10,795,470 million votes for party-list and 112 of members of parliament seats.

In total 39,293,867 Thai people went for the election vote from 52,238,594 Thais who have the right to vote which is 75.22 percent.

Pita said on his Twitter after midnight (May 15th) , “I am ready to be the 30th Prime Minister of Thailand. Thank you to all the voters who have supported me. We have the same dream, hope and belief that Thailand must be better from changes. It doesn’t matter if you have voted for me but I will be your prime minister and will serve you all.”

TPN media notes, however, that it is not a guarantee that Mr. Pita would become PM, as we explain below.

The next step, however, is for the military-appointed senate and newly elected house to come together to nominate a new Prime Minister, although this could take some time and various coalitions are expected to form to attempt to pass their candidate through.

Thailand is entering the final stretch before Thai people go to the polls for the general election in which they elect Members of Parliament across the country on May 14th.
