Elderly Woman Rescued from Fire in Pattaya

Pattaya —

A 75-year-old woman was rescued from a building that went up in flames for unknown reasons last night in Pattaya, May 11th. The incident happened in Soi Bongkot 4, and nobody was injured.

At 8 PM, the Pattaya firefighting unit received a report of a fire at the TG Battery Shop in Soi Bongkot 4 in the Nongprue sub-district of Banglamung district. They rushed to the scene with Sawang Boriboon rescuers.

A fire was found burning a 3-storey building. Flames were seen inside the building and a large amount of smoke was billowing out, rescuers told The Pattaya News.

An elderly woman, Mrs. Somrong Prachumchuen, 75, was trapped in her second-floor room amidst the raging fire and thick smoke. Firefighters and rescuers had to use a ladder to rescue her and brought her down safely. The woman suffered no injuries, firefighters reported.

The firefighting unit then used 5 water trucks to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby buildings. After 30 minutes, they were able to extinguish the fire. The authorities then used smoke extractors to clear the building of smog.

The Pattaya News interviewed with the owner of the TG Battery Shop, Mr. Chaiyot Prachumchuen, 50. He said Mrs. Somrong is his mother, and she was inside the building with his housekeeper when the fire erupted. The house maid escaped, while his mother was trapped in the building. Luckily, she was uninjured, Mr. Chaiyot said.

Pattaya Police went to investigate the scene and found that the flames had damaged most of Mr. Chaiyot’s products. The estimated cost of damage was around 1-2 million baht.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
