8-Year-Old Kid Seriously Injured, Jet Ski Rider Drowns After Two Jet Skis Collide in Pattaya Sea

Pattaya —

An 8-year-old child suffered serious injuries while the rider of his jet ski drowned in the Pattaya sea following a collision with another jet ski.

Sawang Boriboon rescuers rushed to the accident site at Pattaya Beach in front of Walking Street around 8 PM yesterday, April 24th, after being notified of a jet ski collision.

At the beach, the rescue team found an 8-year-old kid lying unresponsive with a fractured chin and jaw. The kid had been rescued by a Cambodian Good Samaritan after falling into the sea after his jet ski collided with another party. He was wearing a life jacket and survived the drowning.

The child received life-saving CPR from the rescuers before being rushed to the nearest hospital. The rescuers then dived into the sea to rescue the jet ski driver, Mr. Pornsuwan Phumnok, 35, who also fell into the sea about 15 meters from the beach. The man was not wearing a life jacket, however.

After half an hour, the man’s body was discovered at the bottom of the sea. The rescue team recovered his body, pronounced him dead at the beach and transported him to a local hospital.

The Pattaya News interviewed a Thai beachgoer and witness, who gave only his first name, Mr. Nattaphon, about the incident and learned that the two victims were riding a jet ski when they collided with another jet ski, causing them to be thrown into the sea.

Since he wore a life jacket, the child, who was knocked out from the impact, did not drown and was rescued by a Cambodian jet ski rider who witnessed the accident. However, Mr. Pornsuwan sank into the sea since he did not wear a life jacket.

Pattaya Police later told The Pattaya News that the other jet ski rider involved in the accident was a foreigner, reportedly of Indian nationality. He fled the beach after the accident and remains at large as of press time.

The authorities are checking CCTV footage around the beach to track him down.

It was unclear why the jet skis were being operated well after dark without proper lighting.
