Pattaya —
Pattaya Police searched a nightclub early this morning and arrested five bar hosts with Laotian nationality on suspicion of working without work permits.
The busted nightclub “La-on Club Pattaya” is located in Soi Kho Phai 4 in Pattaya. Around 02:30 AM today, April 11th, several police officers raided the club after receiving complaints from concerned citizens that the club operator was hiring migrant workers to work for them without work permits.
The concerned citizens were allegedly afraid that without work permits the staff might not be trained properly to assist customers.
About 20 Thai pub-goers were discovered inside the pub. Police ordered the venue operator to turn off the music and turn on the lights. They then arrested five Laotian men who were dressed in bar host outfits and ordered them to produce their work permits.
After being unable to follow the police’s order, all five men were taken to a local police station for the identification process. Although only one of the five men admitted to working for the club, Pattaya Police told The Pattaya News that they would press charges on all of them if they were not legally permitted to work in the country.
The arrested suspects names were not released by Pattaya police.
The officers also tested for illegal drugs in the club’s customers and found none positive. They said they would also pursue legal action against the club operator because the club reportedly violated the legal closing time, which depending on if a bar is the entertainment zone or not can vary between midnight to 2AM.
