Large Turtle Carcass Found on a Pattaya Beach

Pattaya —

A sea turtle carcass was found on a Pattaya Beach. It was expected to be at least 40-50 years old.

Tourists spotted the carcass near Pattaya’s Soi Phratamnak 4 at 3:30 AM today, March 21st. They contacted the authorities to come to look at the animal.

The turtle is measured at 80-90 cm wide and 100-120 cm long from head to tail. It weighs about 60 kg and is anticipated to be at least 40-50 years old, the authorities told The Pattaya News. The carcass is decomposing and might be dead for around 2-3 days.

A Thai tourist, Ms. Nittaya Thongbang, who stumbled upon the turtle, told The Pattaya News that she noticed the turtle lying on the beach and was initially delighted to see such a big animal. However, when she approached it, she immediately knew that it was dead from its smell.

The Center for Research and Development of Marine and Coastal Resources removed the carcass from the beach and transported it to their facility for further review of its cause of death.

A smaller dead sea turtle was reported by a Pattaya News reader on Jomtien Beach last week and eventually removed by authorities as well.
