Top National Thailand Stories From the Past Week: Air Pollution Problem Dominates Thai Media, and more

Here is a look at the top NATIONAL Thailand stories, chosen by our Pattaya News/TPN National team, from last week, Monday, March 6th, 2023, to Sunday, March 12th, 2023. They are not in any particular level of importance but are listed in the order of date of publication.

Let’s get started and see what the top stories were!

  1. An American tourist on Sunday, March 5th, obtained 50,000 baht in reparations from The Club Khaosan in Bangkok after he was handcuffed and slapped in the face by the pub guards over a misunderstanding about a bottle of water.

In total, six bouncers and a manager were fired by the club after the incident.

2. More than 15,000 tourists joined in the Full Moon Party on Phangan Island in Surat Thani.

The Full Moon Party this month had been postponed from March 6th to March 7th due to the Makha Bucha Buddhist holiday in which alcohol sales were banned by Thai law.

3. Politician turned whistleblower Chuvit Kamolvisit is furiously attacking Bhumjaithai Party ministers, especially suspended Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob, for many alleged irregularities in the massive Orange Line electric train project.

The suspended minister, so far, has denied all allegations and is waiting for the court’s ruling.

4. The Thai government is, according to them, solving PM 2.5 dust pollution issues and urging people to avoid outdoor activities.

Chiang Mai was number one in the world on March 9th, for air pollution based on AQI indexes online.

5. The Airport Interdiction Task Force (AITF) and the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) have successfully intercepted a large cache of narcotics and prevented them from reaching their destination in several overseas countries.

These drugs were smuggled into Thailand from Johannesburg, South Africa, and Ethiopia, and they were destined for Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, and Australia, the commissioner-general told a press briefing.

And, that is all for this week. Thank you as always for reading the Pattaya News/TPN News!
