Thai Police Seize Heroin Worth 107 Million Baht Bound for Hong Kong

National —

Thai Police have confiscated a large haul of heroin valued at 107 million baht. The illicit drugs, weighing 43.40 kg, was intended to be smuggled to Hong Kong, police told TPN Media.

Police officers and Custom Department officials jointly held a press conference to declare a massive seizure of heroin on Tuesday, March 7th, stating that the drug was discovered at Suvarnabhumi airport by officials who were suspicious about 29 boxes intended for Hong Kong.

The boxes were declared to contain some home appliances, garments, cosmetics, and hair removal devices. Upon opening the first six boxes, however, the officials found hill tribe-style shirts and waist ties with the sleeves of the shirts looking unusually thick and emanating a strong smell. The officials then decided to tear open some of the garments to investigate further and found a hidden substance.

After running a test on the substance found inside the sleeves, the officials ruled that it was heroin and decided to check the other boxes and found 43.40 kg of heroin valued approximately at over 107.5 million baht in total.

Police officers at the press briefing said the illegal drugs have been seized and that they are working with the Customs Department to uncover the sender of the boxes.
