UPDATE: Arson Suspect Who Reportedly Set Fire at Pattaya Secret Beach Arrested

Pattaya —

A Cambodian arson suspect who reportedly burned fishermen’s fishing tools stored at Pattaya Secret Beach was arrested yesterday by Pattaya Police.

First our previous story:

A fire was reported this week at one of Pattaya’s not commonly known beach areas. Residents suspected it might have been an act of arson.

Now for our update:

An investigation by police following a suspected arson at a beach in Pattaya’s Soi Naklua 18 led to the arrest of a Cambodian man only identified as Mr. Ra, 30, on March 1st.

According to Pol. Lt. Col. Thananon Atiphansi, an officer from the Pattaya police station, the suspect was a vagabond. He was arrested at a makeshift shelter in the woods near an incident scene. Initially, Mr. Ra still denied charges of arson, but Lt. Col. Thananon told The Pattaya News that he had solid evidence against him.

One piece of evidence included distinctive black rocks that were found at the incident scene and inside the suspect’s backpack, said police. Other evidence was a gas cylinder head and two lighters. The Cambodian vagabond was also captured walking near the beach on CCTV cameras.

The suspect is being detained at the police station, pending legal action.
