Fire Reported at Pattaya “Secret” Beach, Residents Suspect Arson

Pattaya —

A fire was reported this week at one of Pattaya’s not commonly known beach areas. Residents suspected it might have been an act of arson.

The beach is located in Soi Naklua 18. It is used mainly for the storage of fishing gear, tables, and chairs belonging to fishermen who went out to sea and came back to sell their catches in the area, residents told The Pattaya News.

The fire erupted between 3-4 AM on Monday night, February 27th. It had burned some fishing tools and work equipment of the fishermen.

41-year-old fisherman Mr. Teeraphat Iampinyo told the Pattaya News that the blaze started at the storage area of the fishing nets. He said the fire was definitely an act of arson because two unidentified people had been spotted walking around the area before the incident occurred.

“A fire had never happened around here. We were very lucky that the firefighter unit responded quickly to the fire and was able to put it out before any major harm was done,” Teeraphat stated.

Nobody was injured in the blaze. The local fisherman added that he is in trouble because he now does not have any equipment to continue making a living because most of it has been destroyed in the fire. The total damage was over 300,000 baht, according to him.

Pattaya law enforcement is looking into the cause of the fire.
