In a major, nationwide anti-drug operation carried out by Thai police, multiple drug suspects were arrested with what could be one of the largest hauls of illegal drugs, consisting of 200kg of crystal meth, 300kg of ketamine, and 12 million meth pills.
Anti-drug police led by Pol. Gen. Chinnaphat Sarasin, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Police, held a press conference on Tuesday, February 21st, to announce the crackdown on six drug cases with 24 arrests.
The first case occurred in the Tha Sae district of Chumphon province. Checkpoint police searched a pickup and found three million meth pills concealed in seven white sacks. Three suspects were apprehended including 22-year-old Mr. Piyawat Songphang, 26-year-old Ms. Nora Samo, and 19-year-old Mr. Nuttawut Niamhom.
The suspects admitted that they were hired to deliver the pills from Bangkok to Narathiwat province.
Gen. Chinnaphat said the second case resulted in the arrest of a man identified only as 51-year-old Mr. Yomana and the seizure of three million meth pills. The suspect used a truck to transport the drugs hidden under a pile of rice sacks from Saraburi province to Narathiwat province.
The third case happened on February 20th and resulted in the arrest of three people. Gen. Chinnaphat stated that 58-year-old Mr. Sayan, 41-year-old Mr. Panarat, and 48-year-old Ms. Piyarat tried to smuggle drugs from Thailand to a neighboring country through a natural route in Sa Kaeo province. Seven sacks of ketamine weighing 290 kg were impounded.
Another case happened on February 14th when a follow-up operation successfully led to the arrest of seven suspects. They were nabbed in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province and Khon Kaen province with seven kilograms of heroin.
Gen. Chinnaphat continued that the fifth case involved five people, including Mr. Witoon, 28, Mr. Panithan, 32, Ms. Suchinda , 40, Ms. Chanthani, 44, and Mrs. Chayapa, 41. The suspects were nabbed while attempting to transport 200 kg of crystal meth from the northern part of Thailand to the South.
The suspects were apprehended in Suphan Buri province.
The last case, according to Gen. Chinnaphat, happened on February 20th. Anti-drug police arrested seven suspects, including Mr. Somchai, 32, Mr. Prakaiphet, 37, Mr. Chumpol, 36, Mr. Chaiyut, 32, Mr. Komsan , 31, Mr. Ekaluck, 38, and Mr. Tawatchai, 33.
Police seized six million meth pills and seven vehicles used to transport the drugs. The arrests took place in Lopburi province, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, and Pathum Thani province.
The pills were transported from the North and meant for customers in the central and southern parts of Thailand.
All illegal drugs would be examined before being destroyed , Gen. Chinnaphat told the press.
