More Than 500 Motorbike Accidents in Two Months in Phuket Involving Foreign Tourists, Say Officials

More than 500 motorbike accidents in Phuket have involved foreign tourists in just two months, said relevant officials.

A meeting was held this morning (February 22nd) and was led by Phuket Vice Governor Arnuparb Rodkhwan Yodrabam.

Vice Governor Arnuparb told the Phuket Express. “Many accidents recently have involved foreign motorbike riders.”

“In most of the accidents, the foreign tourists have rented motorbikes. Eighty percent of them do not have driving licenses, some were wearing swim suits, driving at high speed, and not familiar with routes. From January to February there were more than 500 accidents involving foreign tourists,” Vice Governor Arnuparb explained.

“We are trying to solve consistent problems about motorbike rental businesses renting to tourists without proper documentation to prevent road accidents and motorbike racers,” Vice Governor Arnuparb added.
