Chonburi —
A pickup rear-ended another pickup, killing one 70-year-old rider and injuring four people.
The tragic accident took place yesterday, February 20th, on 344 Road in the Nong Phai Kaeo sub-district, Ban Bueng district, Chonburi.
Ban Bueng rescue services rushed to the scene to find two pickups: A gray Mitsubishi with a demolished bumper and a bronze Toyota Revo lying in an upside down position. The rescuers rescued four people, including the driver, from the Mitsubishi. All victims sustained injuries with one suffering a broken left leg.
They were all transferred to Ban Bueng Hospital.
The rescuers then discovered another man trapped beneath one of the pickups. They asked a crane truck stuck in traffic nearby to move the pickup wreckage to liberate the victim. However, the man, identified as 70-year-old Mr. Pongsak Preamsakchai, later passed away upon his arrival at Ban Bueng Hospital.
The driver of the Toyota Revo, 23-year-old Mr. Thanapat Kaewlai, told local media that he was briefly distracted as he was trying to turn his car and failed to notice a pickup in front of him. The distraction caused Mr. Thanapat to rear-end into the Mitsubishi, local media reported.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Mitsubishi, 70-year-old Mr. Anant Sabai, stated that the force of the crash caused his vehicle to spin and landed upward.
Both drivers suffered injuries. Ban Bueng Police stated they would summon the drivers for questioning once they made a full recovery.
