Pathum Thani –
An illegal meatball factory in Pathum Thani was raided after delivering food to 41 places in Bangkok and nearby areas including an international school.
Yesterday, (February 17th), officers from the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) raided a meatball factory in the Klong Luang district.
The Commander of the FDA, Major General Anan Nanasombat, told TPN media that a man identified only as Mr. Sarit was presented as the factory owner. Officers seized 30 bags of meatballs and 12 kilograms of Sodium Benzoate (Preservatives).
Major General Anan told TPN media that the production of the meatballs does not reach Thai hygienic standards.
The meatballs were being advertised as made of 100 percent pork which is not true because it is mixed with chicken meat to decrease the cost of production.
The factory does not reach the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standard and the meatballs are also contaminated with Borax, Anan stated.
Mr. Sarit admitted to the FDA that they sent the meatballs to 41 fresh markets in Bangkok and nearby provinces and have been selling the meatballs for two years. They sell from 300 kilograms to 800 kilograms per day. They have recently sent the meatballs to an unidentified international school in Pathum Thani for a total of 65 kilograms.
Police are contacting the international school to warn them not to cook the meatballs for students. Mr. Sarit is facing charges of offending various Food Health and Safety Acts, according to the Thai FDA.
