The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy and Spring Airlines welcomed the first Chinese group tours on Monday, February 6th.
The first group tour of 40 Chinese tourists departed from Guangzhou, China and arrived at Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok on a Spring Airlines flight No. 9C7419, after three years of harsh Covid-19 restrictions in China.
The group was warmly welcomed by Chinese Ambassador Mr. Yang Xin and TAT Governor Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn.
Yuthasak said that Thailand is among the 20 countries that China allows its tour groups to fly to after the reopening of the country’s borders on January 8.
Apart from this flight, 13 other Chinese flights from Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Xiamen, Nanking, and Nanning are scheduled to land in Thailand at three airports: Don Mueang Airport, Suvarnabhumi Airport, and Phuket International Airport, throughout today.
The tour group will embark on a six-day itinerary, traveling between Bangkok and Pattaya, as well as between Chonburi and Rayong, according to Yuthasak.
The group will visit various attractions, such as Koh Samet, Nongnooch Garden Pattaya, Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen, the Grand Palace, and Chinatown.
The TAT governor revealed that the return of Chinese group tours bodes well for Thailand’s economic recovery. The country already welcomed 99,429 Chinese tourists between January 1st to February 2nd.
There are also 2,000 flights with 445,655 seats available from Chinese airports in various cities, such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Chengdu, or Xiamen, that are ready to fly to Thailand.
The governor expects that 300,000 Chinese tourists will visit Thailand in the first quarter, while the goal for this year is to attract at least five million Chinese tourists.
