Roi Et province —
A Swedish man got into a fatal road accident in Thailand only five days after having united with his Thai lover he met online two years ago.
The Swedish man, only identified as 50-year-old Mr. Stefan, reportedly overshot a curve, crashed into a roadside ditch, and hit his head on a concrete pipe while riding his motorbike on Saturday, January 28th.
The victim was found by a resident of Roi Et’s Suvarnabhumi district on Suvarnabhumi-Ban Dong Mai Road at 2:30 PM.
An unnamed resident told the police who arrived later that he heard a vehicle speeding past the road followed by a loud crashing sound. He then rushed to the scene only to find the victim already deceased in a ditch.
The man succumbed to his severe neck injury, medical staff stated. His red Honda PCX was found lying on the roadside. Nobody witnessed the incident, said the police.
Later, the victim’s girlfriend, identified as Ms. Veeranuch Buthinkong, traveled to the scene to see her Swedish boyfriend. The 27-year-old told police that she had met the victim two years ago on social media. The victim took a leave from his job to meet her in Thailand only five days ago before succumbing to his fate.
The girlfriend stated that her boyfriend had just promised her he would take her to his country to live together. She added that her boyfriend told her he would go on a ride to take some photos of the neighborhood and that she already warned him to be careful.
The victim was discovered about six kilometers away from his girlfriend’s village. The police suspected that the victim might have been unfamiliar with the road and traveled at high speed. His body was transferred to a local hospital for an autopsy.
