Nakhon Ratchasima province —

Eleven people, including two children, were burned to death after the minivan they were riding in crashed into an irrigation ditch last night, January 21st.

The horrific accident occurred at 9:30 PM on the Mitrapap highway leading to Bangkok in the Si Khiu district.

The Hook 31 rescue unit rushed to the accident scene after the unit leader, Nikom Sae Oun, heard a deafening explosion.

The Toyota minivan was already consumed by a fire by the time the rescuers arrived. The sole survivor, Thanachit Kingkaew, 20, was seen clawing his way out of the burning van. He was rushed to Si Khiu Hospital.

However, eleven people, including the driver and two children, were burned to death inside the van. None of the victims could be identified due to the conditions of their bodies.

According to the police investigation, the van was run on LNG gas. Eleven people were on board the van, as it headed from Amnat Charoen to Nakhon Pathom province.

While between kilometer markers 99-100, the van suddenly lost control, collided with a metal railing, and crashed into the median ditch. It then caught fire and burned eleven people alive.

The sole survivor of the accident remains in a hospital.
