Chonburi —

A murder suspect who allegedly killed his 3-year-old daughter in Nakhon Sawan province was arrested yesterday, January 4th, after fleeing to Chonburi province.

The suspect brutally murdered his own daughter by stuffing dirt in her mouth and leaving her alone to her fate in the woods in Nakhon Sawan’s Lat Yao district, according to authorities. He was last seen picking up his daughter from her bed at 5:00 AM on Tuesday, January 3rd, and disappearing into the woods.

The suspect, 27-year-old Mr. Ronnachai Pannon, never returned to his house nor did his daughter. The neighbors went in search of the man and his daughter in the woods only to find his 3-year-old daughter deceased under a pile of dirt. Local authorities suspected that Mr. Ronnachai may have slaughtered his young daughter, so they released his identity and went after him.

News about the suspect’s alleged atrocity made headlines on many Thai media outlets. On Wednesday, January 4th, Ronnachai was finally arrested at a gas station in the Ban Suan subdistrict of Mueang district, Chonburi.

Chonburi police told local media that an anonymous informant contacted them after they came across the suspect while he was strolling out of the bathroom and remembered his appearance from the news. Police impounded a black Honda Wave motorbike, which was the suspect’s getaway vehicle, and took him to the police station. The suspect was in a jovial mood and openly seen smiling and laughing despite the serious criminal allegations.

The suspect denied the murder allegations and kept blaming an old woman whom he claimed was a “ghost” for murdering his daughter. Seemingly high on illegal drugs, the authorities ran a drug test on Ronnachai and detected an undisclosed illicit substance in his system.

The drug-crazed suspect also claimed he did not attempt to run away but was just heading to Bang Saen to pick up his wife. However, his wife who asked not to publish her name in the media, later told police she had left the suspect a long time ago because he was addicted to drugs. The mother was devastated when she learned about her daughter’s heartbreaking loss, said reports.

It was unclear why the father had custody of the daughter despite his alleged drug problem and mental health issues.

Thai authorities charged the suspect with murder and taking illegal drugs. He is detained and undergoing legal processes as of press time.
