Chonburi —
A family of three was trapped in a sinking pickup truck wreck after falling into an irrigation ditch following a collision with a cement truck in the Ban Bueng district. The mother of a 13-year-old girl passed away.
The accident happened last night, November 26th, on Ban Bueng-Klaeng 334 Road in Chonburi’s Nong Chak subdistrict. A Thai three-member family was rescued by Ban Bueng rescuers and police officers in the middle of the rain.
The three victims, Mr. Sompong Prasertsri, 52, Ms. Nittaya Onsri, 50, and their young 13-year-old daughter were trapped inside their crumpled white Isuzu pickup truck that was sinking in water in a roadside irrigation ditch. Rescuers also found a cement truck resting on top of a pickup truck when they arrived.

With additional help from a passing excavator, all three victims were finally liberated. Rescuers found, however, that Ms. Nittaya had succumbed to her wounds. All victims were rushed to a local hospital for emergency care.
The unnamed driver of the cement truck alleged to police that he was driving behind the injured family when they suddenly braked, causing him to ram into them and pushed them into a ditch.

Ban Bueng police said a wet road might have caused the accident. The truck driver was being questioned by police at the police station.
