UPDATE: Alleged drunk Burmese murderer who stabbed Thai friend to death in Pattaya arrested

Banglamung, Chonburi —

  An alleged drunk Burmese murderer who stabbed his 29-year-old Thai friend to death in Pattaya was arrested in Sri Racha, Chonburi, claiming he quarreled with his friend about an arm wrestling match and religion before the murder.

Now for our update: 

Banglamung police chief Pol. Col. Nawin Sinthurat and a team of investigation officers arrested the Burmese suspect, Somboon Areesawad, 42, after he escaped from Pattaya to his old employer’s residence in Chonburi’s Sri Racha district after stabbing his Thai mate to death on the early morning of Sunday, November 20th.

Police arrested Somboon at 2 PM on the same day of the incident. The officers nabbed him while he was napping on a hammock beside a chicken coop in the Bueng subdistrict. Somboon was a Thai Yai native migrating from Myanmar to Chiang Rai province in Thailand, according to Pol. Col. Nawin.

Somboon reportedly confessed to murdering his friend with a one-foot-long knife, which he gave to the police later.

He also reportedly admitted he argued with his deceased Thai friend about an arm wrestling match and religion, which triggered him to stab his friend two times. His friend was able to block the first strike with his hand, the suspect said, however, the suspect stabbed his friend again directly in the chest, killing him in an instant.

“The suspect showed no remorse while undergoing a crime re-enactment, ” said the Banglamung police chief, “He only said sorry once.”

The suspect was charged with homicide. He was in Banglamung police custody.
