Sattahip, Chonburi —

Sattahip police inspected a new open-air nightclub/nightlife venue that had recently opened on the Mountain B nightclub’s grounds where dozens of pubgoers were killed in a fire last August.

Sattahip police led by Pol. Lt. Col. Wuttipong Somjai, Superintendent of Plu Ta Luang police station, with support from Chonburi Police Region Two, inspected a nightlife venue, Never Land, that on Saturday held its grand opening and operated for the very first day after reportedly changing its name from Mountain Bar & Bistro.

Mountain Bar & Bistro was located near the Mountain B nightclub where 13 pubgoers were killed directly in a fire and another 13 at hospitals after a fire struck the club on August 5th, 2022. Mountain Bar & Bistro was owned by ‘Sia Yot’ or Somyot Panprasong, a 55-year-old alleged owner of Mountain B.

Pol. Lt. Col. Wuttipong told The Pattaya News the new club, Never Land, was a mixed bar and restaurant and was located on the same grounds as Mountain B that had already been demolished.

This venue had been placed up for sale shortly after the fire destroyed the nearby main nightclub.

However, the whole venue and land was currently on a five-year closing order, so Wuttipong asked Never Land’s operators to produce a title deed to him at the police station to see if the venue was really on the same grounds as Mountain B.

Initially, the officer suggested Never Land’s operators to close the venue until they provided proof of a proper license and a land deed that didn’t violate the five-year closure order.
