Chonburi —
A famous goalkeeper reportedly crashed his sedan into two joggers in Chonburi at 4:30 AM today, October 26th, killing one and seriously injuring the other.
The goalkeeper was believed to be a member of Chonburi FC named Mr. Worawut “Bank” Sukuna, 23, according to Pol. Lt. Nonthanan Navanam, an investigation officer from the Mueang police station.
Bank reportedly crashed his Toyota Vios sedan into two joggers on Beach Road in the Ban Khod subdistrict of Mueang district, Chonburi. The first 62-year-old victim Ms. Kanya Phonghasban was killed instantly due to her leg and head injuries, while her jogging companion Mr. Pong (last name unknown) suffered serious injuries.
Bank confessed to being the driver. Pol. Lt. Nonthanan said Bank seemed drunk and had a blood alcohol level measuring 184 milligrammes per deciliter, exceeding the legal limit. The goalkeeper also refused to sign to acknowledge his alcohol level.
Mr. Sawet Jewatcharin, a jogger and eyewitness, told police he saw Bank driving at high speed before he lost control of his sedan and hit the two victims who were jogging on a bike lane.
It is also reported that while Mueang police were questioning Bank, two individuals who happened to be Bank’s friends including a 36-year-old defender of Chonburi FC Mr. Chalermpong Kerdkaew drove up to the police and tried to take Bank away. After failing, the two who also reportedly seemed drunk threw a punch at police but missed.
The two friends then gave up and were released without getting charged, according to reports.
Bank was charged with reckless driving and causing death and injury to others. Chonburi FC and Bank have apologized and will be covered in future articles and updates.
