A group of six Thai and Malaysian nationals were arrested in Bangkok for reportedly being involved in human trafficking of Thai victims to Dubai, Police General Surachat”Big Joke” Hakparn, Deputy Commissioner of the Thai National Police, revealed on Thursday, October 20th.
A police investigation was conducted after officials were notified of the human trafficking which reportedly involved government officials, including police officers and officials from the Ministry of Labor.
It eventually led to the arrest of a Thai female official “Miss A”, whose real name was withheld by the police, who reportedly assisted the victims to escape the authority checks at the Suvarnabhumi Labour Checkpoint.
The first arrest also led to more evidence identification and issuance of arrest warrants for four additional suspects.
Two suspects were identified as Phatrin Duanghiran and Sarinya Khamsuk who were reportedly acting as dealers to deceive victims into work.
They were already captured and under police prosecution. The other two suspects are a Thai national, Saengdao Sangchawee, and a Malaysian national, Ho Jun Hao, who were reportedly acting labour agents in Dubai and were still on the run.
General Surachat revealed that Miss A was reportedly responsible for coordinating and facilitating the victims to get through the labour checkpoint and would earn 4,000 baht per victim.
The money would be shared with a representative from the labour checkpoint, who was later identified as Samphan Nimanong – a former labour checkpoint officer. He was reportedly the main coordinator to make and send a list of victims who would travel to the destination country and receive money from the trafficking agent.
The police then requested for a search warrant at his house. However, Samphan committed suicide to reportedly escape police prosecution on October 11th.
Samphan’s money transactions also revealed five more officials involved in the human trafficking, namely Watchara Isarangkun Na Ayudhya, Piyawan Kosolboon, Suchitta Umalee, Thanyat Wangpanich, and Krithiran Nithithanyarat. All of them are initially charged for misbehaving and/or refraining from performing duties and accepting bribery and/or benefits from others.
