Thai Cabinet approves measures to effectively solve firearms and drug problems, government spokesperson reports

National –The Thai Cabinet on Tuesday, October 18th, has approved preventive measures for firearms and drugs problems to effectively and seriously solve the social issues, government spokesperson Anucha Burachaisri revealed.

According to his statement, the firearms measures include: (1) Permission documents to possess and use firearms, such as additional documents of medical certificates, certificate from agencies/employers;

(2) Permission to allow owners of unauthorized firearms to give up or register the weapons with the authorities;

(3) Proactive prevention and suppression of firearms, such as unauthorized arms trafficking; and

(4) Digital measures to search for illegal firearm trading on digital platforms.

Regarding the drugs prevention regulations, control of chemical imports used in drug production would be implemented as well as a proactive search and serious investigation on drug smuggling and selling in Thailand.

The proactive search on drug addicts in local communities would also be conducted as well as the establishment of local rehabilitations to actively solve drug abuses.

Meanwhile, measures to prevent and solve mental health problems will also be developed in local communities, such as networks of health monitoring system in communities, the spokesperson stated.
