Russian President Vladimir Putin not yet confirmed to join APEC 2022 in Thailand, Thai Foreign Affairs Minister says

Bangkok –

Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet confirmed to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC 2022) in Bangkok, Foreign Affairs Minister Don Pramudwinai revealed on Tuesday, October 18th.

The Minister told the Associated Press that there is no official confirmation whether the President would attend the APEC meeting or not.

Don said that Putin would like to attend the meeting but there are a lot of things that he has to consider, including the complicated procedures of traveling outside the country.

However, last Tuesday, it was reported in local media that the President agreed to attend the APEC 2022 as confirmed by the security department and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ordered the department to prepare for security management prior to the world leaders’ meeting between November 18th and the 19th.

Don’s statement today appears to walk back that prior notice.
