Baan Bueng district, Chonburi —
A 40-year-old driver was killed instantly after his sedan rammed into the back of a stationary truck.
The fatal accident unfolded on a road leading to the Nong Yai subdistrict of Chonburi at 4 AM yesterday, October 11th. The collision involved a Mitsubishi Pajero sedan that crashed into the rear of a truck parked on the roadside and killed the Thai driver, Mr. Chaiya Kongkham, 40, on the spot, according to Baan Bueng rescue workers.
The victim’s body was entangled in the vehicle wreckage, sustaining head and arm injuries. His body was arduously removed from the car and transported to a nearby hospital by rescue services.
The truck driver, Mr. Kasem Chumchat, 67, who was uninjured, told local media that he was on his way to the Chanthaburi province to deliver goods and pulled over on the roadside for a late-night meal. After 30 minutes, however, Mr. Kasem heard a loud noise and darted to the back of his truck to discover that the victim had rammed into his truck and passed away.
Baan Bueng police summoned the truck driver for questioning at the police station. It was unclear whether poor road lighting or lack of vehicle lighting had played a part in the accident or not.
