Nakhon Panom –

An unidentified female body, aged between 25-30 years old, was found stuffed in luggage floating along the Mekong River and stuck near a line of patrol boats in the That Phanom District of Nakhon Phanom on Wednesday, September 28th.

According to the initial examination, the body was 160 centimeters tall and reportedly brutally murdered before being stuffed in a black suitcase. She was reportedly wearing luxurious brand-named clothing, so the police estimated that she was somewhat wealthy. Her body was sent for autopsy to Khon Kaen’s forensic institute.

As of Friday, September 30th, Police Colonel Thawin Khamket, Superintendent of That Phanom District Police Station, told reporters that a Lao businessperson from Vientiane had requested the Thai police for body verification as she could be their relative who had been missing for more than a week. Details on the identity of the possible relative, however, were not released.

The police stated that the case may have occurred from neighboring countries and the authorities only had the duty to deliver the body and report the autopsy results to the relatives before they could proceed with legal procedures in Laos.
