Thai tourism gradually recovering after reopening, Government to extend visa period to attract 10 million foreign tourists by year end

National –

Thai tourism is gradually recovering after more than four million foreign tourists have arrived in Thailand since the full reopening at the beginning of 2022, Government spokesperson Anucha Burachaisri revealed on Wednesday, August 24th.

The spokesperson continued that the significant increase in international tourists was a positive sign, reflecting the recovery of the tourism sector and the Thai economy due to the government’s relaxation of travel measures and tourism promotions.

The relevant agencies were ordered to come up with effective measures to stimulate tourism in the second half of the year in order to achieve the Tourism Authority’s goal of attracting 10 million foreign tourists by the end of 2022.

Moreover, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration’s (CCSA) recent approval of visa period extensions was also consistent with the government policy to welcome more tourists.

According to approval, the visa exemption period would be extended from 30 days to 45 days and the Visa on Arrival (VOA) would also be extended from a maximum of 15 days to 30 days, effective from October 2022 to March 2023.

Related authorities, including the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Immigration office, were ordered to implement and proceed with the CCSA resolution in the further step.

“The government is seeking ways and considering various measures to be consistent with the domestic and international situations to stimulate and revive the tourism and other related industries while also following implementation of public health measures,” Anucha added.

TPN notes that the visa extension periods had not yet been made law in the Royal Gazette and were not official, with no set date on when this would happen.
