Thailand selected as new ASEAN public health regional hub “ACPHEED”

Bangkok –

Thailand was selected as the new ASEAN Center for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases, or ACPHEED, Government spokesperson Anucha Burachaisri told the Associated Press on Wednesday, August 24th.

ACPHEED will serve as a center of excellence and regional hub to strengthen ASEAN’s regional capabilities to prepare, prevent, detect, and respond to public health emergencies and emerging diseases.

Anucha added: “To be selected as such is the achievement of Thailand and the Thai public health. It’d been more than two years that ASEAN members had been negotiating to select the perfect location. It is because Thailand’s preventive measures that are seriously taken to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic has been accepted by many countries around the world.”

“The ASEAN’s regional hub is scheduled to launch its soft opening on August 26th. It is another process for Thailand that is also in line with the government strategy of developing the country as the ‘medical hub’ for international recognition.” Anucha concluded.
