Intoxicated driver crashes into taxi carrying foreign passenger and attacks the taxi driver in Pattaya

Pattaya —

An intoxicated Thai driver crashed into a taxi and attacked the chauffeur in Pattaya, blaming the chauffeur for running a red light.

Pol. Maj. Saijai Khamjunla from the Pattaya Police Station responded promptly to a traffic accident between a sedan and a taxi, which transformed into a physical altercation, yesterday, August 17th, on Sukhumvit Road near an intersection in Central Pattaya.

At about 4 a.m., officer Saijai arrived to find a crumpled white Toyota Vios sedan and a green and yellow taxi on Sukhumvit Road. Abhisit Chaleawchalard, a 24-year-old sedan driver, who sustained no injuries waited at the accident scene along with the taxi driver Suthipong Puttanurak, 67, who suffered a head injury.

According to Suthipong, he was punched in the face multiple times by Abhisit whom he said cut the red light and crashed into his taxi while he tried to make a U-turn. The chauffeur carried on that he could only guard his face and did not fight back due to his age till other people came to help him.

Additionally, Suthipong said he had a female foreign passenger in his taxi who was shocked and injured by the accident. Her identity was withheld.

Meanwhile, Abhisit, who drove a white sedan, told a totally different story as he blamed the elderly chauffeur for cutting the red light and crashing into him. He also said he had his wife and kid in his sedan and reportedly confessed to attacking the chauffeur on a sudden impulse.

Officer Suthipong then took Abhisit to the Pattaya Police Station for an alcohol breath test, which revealed that he had more than 100 mg of alcohol in his system. He then begged the police to not press charges, but the police refused and insisted on taking legal action against him.
