National —

A Chinese scam call center boss wanted on a Chinese red notice for human trafficking was arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport. The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and was deported back to China.

Pol. Gen. Suwat Jangyodsuk, national police chief, announced on Monday, July 25th, the arrest of Zhou Dawei, a Chinese male fugitive who was wanted on a Chinese red notice.

According to the officer, Thai law enforcement collaborated with Chinese agencies to apprehend the suspect at Suvarnabhumi Airport on July 23rd. The suspect was detained at the airport before reportedly confessing to the crime of smuggling illegal Chinese workers to work for scam call centers in Laos and Cambodia.

At 5 PM on July 25th, Zhou was eventually deported to China on a China Southern Airlines CZ 30282 flight, which was handled by Chinese agencies. Officer Suwat stated that PM Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha was currently on a mission to eradicate cybercrime, especially scam call centers that were rampaging in Thailand.

“The PM was eager to seek collaborations from neighboring countries to address this issue. We have made great progress in the previous “Cybercrime Conference for Law Enforcement Agencies and Partners” meeting in Phuket,” Officer Suwat stated. “Eight ASEAN countries and representatives from Interpol partners such as Meta, Microsoft, Trend Micro, and Binance attended this meeting to take cybercrime prevention to another level.”
