ฺBody of missing Sri Racha steersman found after barge capsizes near Koh Sichang

Sri Racha —

The body of a 64-year-old steersman was finally found after his barge capsized near Koh Sichang and went missing on Tuesday, July 12th.

The discovery came after two barges capsized near Koh Sichang on Tuesday, July 12th, due to heavy rain, which caused the barge’s steersman, Nueng Wonglakorn, 64, to fall into the sea and go missing.

Following the incident, officials from the Chonburi Marine Office conducted a search and found two barges 24 meters underwater. The eyewitnesses who saw the incident from a boat nearby stated that the water overflowed onto the two barges due to a choppy sea and eventually sank the barges. Four people were rescued safely, but Nueng unfortunately went missing in a stormy sea near Koh Sichang.

Ultimately, at 2:30 PM on July 16th, Nueng’s body was found around one mile away in the sea near Khao Sam Muk. His body was then recovered back to the shore at Koh Loy Pier in Sri Racha at 8 PM to be confirmed by his relatives.

As of press time, Sri Racha police transported the victim’s body to Laem Chabang Hospital for a preliminary autopsy. Finally, Sri Racha officers warned residents and tourists not to swim in a stormy sea and to heed the red flags on the beach.
