45-year-old pedestrian hit and killed by car at night in Pattaya, driver blames poor road lighting

Banglamung

A 45-year-old pedestrian was hit and killed by a car while trying to cross the road. The driver claimed the lack of road lights was attributable to the accident.

The accident took place on Thursday, July 14th, when rescue officials from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation responded to a fatal road accident on 36 Krating Lai-Rayong Road at 8:30 PM.

The accident scene was poorly lit, according to the driver of the car that hit the pedestrian. Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan rescuers found the male victim, Pratan Panprakhon, 45, lying dead on the street. The victim reportedly sustained severe head and bodily injuries. Not far away from him parked a white Mitsubishi Pajero sedan belonging to a female driver Kanokwan (last name withheld), 29.

According to Kanokwan, she was driving back to her home in Laem Chabang and crashed into the victim while he was trying to cross the road. The victim had not been in a crosswalk or similar area.

She claimed that her vision was deteriorated by the lack of road lights, which led to this tragedy.

Banglamung police said they would interrogate the driver and review CCTV footage to clarify the cause of the accident. They also said that the accident scene was a main road where drivers usually drove fast. However, the police reportedly did not provide any comment about insufficient road lights
