British soldier seriously injured after shooting himself at a gun range in the Pattaya area

Pattaya –

A 35- year-old British soldier has sustained serious injuries after he apparently shot himself in the head at a shooting range in Banglamung at about noon today (July 13th).

Update: As of 7:00 P.M. it has been confirmed by the hospital that unfortunately the soldier has passed away.

The Huayyai Police was notified of the incident at a shooting range in the Huayyai sub-district.

First responders and police arrived at the scene to find the 35-year-old man who is a British soldier (The Pattaya News is withholding his name pending embassy and family notification. The soldier’s commanding officer has already been reportedly informed of the incident). He was bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound to his temple. Nearby, Huayyai police found the handgun used in the incident. The victim was rushed to a local hospital and as of press time was undertaking surgery to attempt to save his life.

A gun trainer at the range, Mr. Santat Senkhor, told The Pattaya News, “The man rented two handguns before opening fire at the target paper many times. The target was pulled back before he looked at it with an odd expression and then suddenly shot himself in his head. It was so fast it was impossible for me to stop him.”

The soldier had reportedly shot firearms at the range at least six times before, according to the range staff, who said the man had never acted depressed or seemed out of sorts.

Police are continuing their investigation.
