One person killed, one seriously injured in major early morning accident in Sri Racha

Sri Racha, Chonburi –

One factory worker was instantly killed and one was seriously injured this morning, July 10th, after their car crashed into a road barrier and the footpath, causing an electric pole to collapse onto the vehicle, while they were driving home in the Sri Racha district.

Sri Racha police and rescue volunteers arrived at the road near a motorway of the Bang Phra Subdistrict around 8:30 AM. on Sunday after being notified of the fatal accident. There, a wrecked black sedan with a Bangkok license plate was found with a collapsed electric pole nearby, broken in half.

Driver Somsak Phuchanha, 31, was found dead near the electric pole on the road. Passenger Chaiwat Niamhom, 23, was found conscious but seriously injured on his right leg from being stuck in the car. He was rescued from the car debris before being immediately being rushed to the nearest hospital.

According to Chaiwat, he and his friend traveled from Sriracha to see a Mor Lam concert in the Chonburi area. Both of them drank a lot of alcohol and were drunk, so they decided to stay a night and to return to Sriracha in the morning.

The injured stated that he was sleeping in the car the whole time and shockingly woke up when the accident occurred, only to find out that half of his body was stuck inside the wrecked car.

About 200 meters away, a pickup truck was discovered with damage on its windshield after being hit by a spare tire of the crashed vehicle. The truck driver was not injured.

The police will continue the investigation and collect more evidence while the body of the decreased would be transferred to Laem Chabang Hospital for an autopsy.
