Banglamung —
Two drug suspects were arrested in Banglamung. One attempted to flee and shoot at police before surrendering eventually.
Banglamung police encountered the two male suspects, Sompong Kaewpaijit (33) and Thanabadee Weerakul (27) in Soi Chaiyaphon Withi yesterday, July 8th, while they were riding a motorbike. According to reports, the police asked to scrutinize the two suspects, but Sompong suddenly bolted into the woods, leaving Thanabadee behind with the bike, who was then detained by police.
According to reports, the officers who ran after Sompong heard a gunshot and had to retreat to await reinforcements. They had to besiege the woods and alerted the residents of Soi Chaiyaphon Withi to stay away from the edge of the forest as the suspect possibly possessed a firearm. After two hours of pressuring, however, Sompong ultimately gave up and surrendered to the police, according to reports.
In addition, the police searched the suspects’ motorbike and reportedly found 17 amphetamine pills and 0.54 grams of methamphetamine concealed under the bike’s under-seat compartment. Sompong and Thanabadee denied possessing the substances as of press time and claimed they didn’t know the drugs were there, but the officers charged them with possessing illegal substances and a firearm. They both also had a criminal history, according to reports.
