Garbage collectors found a 60 mm mortar grenade in a Sri Racha landfill yesterday. Reports were unclear if it was still working.

Pol. Capt. Aswin Chanto from the Nong Kham Police Station responded to a report of two explosive objects discovered at the landfill in Sri Racha at 1:20 PM on July 5th.

According to reports, the object happened to be a 60 mm mortar grenade abandoned among the waste. A Cambodian garbage truck driver told the officers that the grenade may have been mingled with the waste from a housing complex in the Bueng subdistrict.

“I collected this pile of garbage from a housing complex, and I was completely unaware of it,” the worker said.

The officers cordoned off the area around the grenade because it had a destruction range of over 25 meters. They then contacted the explosive ordnance disposal unit to collect the grenade. It was unclear whether the grenade was still live or not.
