Ban Bueng, Chonburi —
A man with mental health issues threatened to jump from a school roof in Chonburi yesterday, June 29th, but was aided by Ban Bueng police without injuries.
The incident took place at Banbung Manoon Wittayakarn School in the Nong Irun subdistrict of Ban Bueng, Chonburi. According to reports, a Thai man (name withheld) with the military rank of Sergeant Major secretly ascended to the top of a school building and threatened to jump. The man reportedly demanded to speak with his commander and his girlfriend whom he claimed was a teacher at this school.
Later, the mother of the man Chitralada (last name withheld) arrived at the school to persuade him to get down but failed. Then, his girlfriend (name withheld) appeared and tried to subdue him into descending the roof but also failed.
Finally, a negotiation specialist at the Ban Bueng Police Station arrived and succeeded in calming the man down by giving him two bottles of Soju (Korean liquor) as requested before helping him down the roof without injuries.
According to reports, the man’s mother claimed that her son was mentally ill and argued with his girlfriend at school, which possibly drove him to ascend to the roof and threatened to take his life. Ban Bueng police said the man returned home with his mother without injuries.
The Thai military did not immediately respond to the incident.
