Thai Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered a rigid ban on all kinds of cannabis and hemp usage — smoking and consuming for medical purposes — on military premises nationwide.

Deputy Spokesperson of Defense Ministry Jitnat Punnotok announced on Friday, June 24th, 2022, after the defense meeting that PM Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha had ordered all units under the Defense Ministry, military branch, and Royal Thai Police, to raise awareness among military officers about cannabis regulations and its adverse effects.

In addition, the order reportedly forbid the distribution of cannabis-and-hemp-related materials on social media and all forms of cannabis and hemp use, including smoking and even consuming for medical reasons, on military premises. Also, military officers were warned not to operate vehicles or machines that could cause injuries if they happened to use cannabis or hemp, according to reports.

“Every officer must follow the cannabis regulations issued by the Health Ministry and refrain themselves from using cannabis for recreational reasons,” Jitnat stated.

“Moreover, all forms of cannabis or hemp use must be rigidly prohibited on the military premises”. Jitnat concluded.
