Pattaya mayor pleased with the newest Covid-19 relaxations after successfully pushing for eased mask mandates, later nightlife hours

Pattaya —

The new Pattaya mayor Poramese “Beer” Ngampiches is pleased with the newest Covid-19 relaxations after successfully pushing for no mask mandates outdoors and later closing hours for nightlife.

Poramese Ngampiches gave an interview after attending the Center for Covid-19 Situation (CCSA) meeting at the Government House today, June 17th, that he is pleased with the overall relaxations, especially the lifting of the mask mandate at beach areas and outdoors, which he outlined as very reasonable given the open space.
Poramese also thanked the CCSA for lengthening the legal closing hours for entertainment venues from midnight to 2 AM, saying that this could be a significant improvement for Pattaya tourism. However, he said it is neccessary to keep the mask on in crowded indoor places, but the mask is no longer compulsory in open/outdoor spaces.
When asked if he has talked with PM Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, Poramese replied that the PM is very respectful and that they have conversed on various topics including more relaxations in Pattaya to boost tourism.
Lastly, the Pattaya mayor Poramese urged some nightlife outlets that may have illegally exceeded the old closing hours to be patient as the new extended ones are coming soon, most likely this July 1st.
