200 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine drugs found hidden in mimic Moai head statues in Sri Racha

Sri Racha, Chonburi —

Sri Racha police confiscated 200 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine drug hidden in mimic Moai head statues, allegedly involving a Taiwanese transnational drug trafficking organization.

A troop of law enforcement officers led by Pol. Gen. Roy Ingkapairote and Taiwanese police representatives raided a warehouse in the Bueng subdistrict, Sri Racha, Chonburi, at 3 p.m. yesterday, June 8th, after receiving a tip-off that a large transnational drug trafficking organization had recently transported a load of the illegal drugs into the warehouse.

According to reports, police discovered six massive replicas of famous Moai heads in the warehouse and cut them open following a tip-off that the drugs were hidden within them. Police then found crystal methamphetamine drugs weighing over 200 kilograms concealed within each Moai head and confiscated it as evidence.

Officer Roy revealed to the press that Sri Racha police received a tip-off that a large transnational drug trafficking organization led by a Taiwanese man identified as Pun and his Thai girlfriend Ju (both full names not provided) were attempting to smuggle narcotics out of Thailand to Taiwan.

They both traveled back and forth between Thailand and Taiwan and rented a warehouse in Samut Sakhon province to previously store the replicas before moving them here, Officer Roy said.

The replicas were imported from Taiwan into Thailand last year on a declaration that they would be displayed in an exhibition by another Thai woman named Kanyaphak (real name withheld by law enforcement) who reportedly took care of the transportation and the rental warehouse.

However, all replicas were kept in the warehouse since then, and police also found several suspicious transactions worth several million baht between Kanyaphak, Pun, and Ju even though they did not have a clear source of income.

Police then conducted an investigation and found that the Moai head statues would be transported back to Taiwan again, which led to a raid yesterday, June 8th.
As of now, Thai law enforcement and Taiwanese police representatives were working together to locate the culprits. They also said that they had previously arrested several members of this illegal drug trafficking group in Thailand before.
