Walking Street nightlife operators assembled to discuss the unfinished road repairs on their world-famous street and urged the relevant authorities to resume working and complete the work as soon as possible.
Narit Petcharat, president of the Pattaya Walking Street Business Association, gathered up with other operators at Pattaya King Seafood restaurant on Walking Street today, June 8th, to discuss the unfinished road repairs to prepare for the expected incoming waves of tourists as border restrictions and Covid19 rules continue to ease.
According to the president, most tourists both short and long stays had been delighted with the nightlife services on Walking Street so far, except for the unsurfaced spots on the pavements and roads and the insufficiency of street lights. The president said that these issues imposed a nuisance to customers and that he feared it might ruin Walking Street’s reputation.
In addition, he said in the meeting that he saw a significant leap of Indian tourists at Walking Street, which he said brought the street back to life again after its enforced closure to tourists. The president also pointed out that some vehicles still drove onto the street regulary, which may endanger tourists, so he urged Pattaya police to take some action.
Lastly, Narit urged the relevant authorities to resume their unfinished projects as urgently as possible to satisfy the tourists’ complaints and preserve Walking Street’s fame.
Authorities have previously said they expect the Walking Street road repairs to be done by August but business operators on the street want faster movement.
One issue holding the completion of the project back is Pattaya still does not have an official mayor due to ballot issues in the prior election. The polling stations affected were set to return to the polls this Sunday, June 12th, to hopefully rectify this issue.
