Pattaya —
The Pattaya Marine Department has instructed water safety measures to be implemented by 150 marine business operators due to a large number of foreign and domestic tourists returning.
Ekkarat Kantharo, director of Pattaya Marine Department Region 6, presided over an assembly of 150 marine business operators today, June 8th, to discuss the water safety measures, urging all operators to strictly obey the measures as the number of tourists was increasing.
The director stated that all boat operators needed to be proficient in their trade as they were responsible for every passenger’s life. They must examine the boat on a regular basis to ensure its proper functionality, especially in the foundation of the boat and life safety equipment, which may have deteriorated during the two-year closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the director, the city of Pattaya has installed six more berths at the Pattaya pier and three at Koh Larn to tackle the rising number of tourists. The city was also allotted a 125 million baht budget to purchase marker buoys to demarcate the marine activity zones in the sea while all boats would be subjected to a speed limit in order to prevent a potential tragedy. Every boat operator, the director emphasized, must stop their transportation at once at 6 p.m.
Director Ekkarat told every assembly attendee that Pattaya was a world-renowned tourist attraction that was once very popular among tourists before the pandemic, and he was confident that it would revert to the same status soon.
