Here is a look at the top NATIONAL stories, chosen by our Pattaya News/TPN National team, from last week, May 30th to June 5th, with some commentary. They are not in any particular level of importance but are listed in the order of date of publication.
1. Thai PM orders strict surveillance of entertainment venues on their first day of reopening in many areas
The order came on the first day of the venue reopening on June 1st. Provincial Public Health officers were patrolling at major areas of the business venues in eligible provinces, including Chonburi and Bangkok, to inspect if they were qualified under Thai Stop COVID 2 Plus and legally registered for their reopening as well as to monitor if customers were fully vaccinated and already received a booster dose.
So far, no clusters or infections of Covid-19 were found as a group after the reopening. However, the Thai Public Health Minister warned that the daily infection numbers could reach 10,000 a day if people neglected the department’s preventive measures.
2. Thai FDA launching “Plook Ganja” application for registration of homegrown cannabis and hemp plantations
Starting June 9th, permission to plant cannabis and hemp will no longer be needed after the FDA launches the “Plook Ganja” application for planters to register as an easy and fast way to notify the FDA and the Public Health Ministry of the number and places where the plants are grown across the country.
However, the details and documents needed for the registration are still not mentioned, so it is still debatable whether only those who hold Thai ID cards were allowed to register.
3. Bangkok Governor to urgently discuss facial masks removal and opening hours extension of entertainment venues and public parks
Governor Chadchart Sittipunt made his firm decision to officially discuss the removal of facial masks in open areas with related agencies, as well as with the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
The opening hours extension of entertainment venues and public parks will also be discussed as he said that the extension would reduce crowd density among the businesses. However, it is not said exactly when the topics will be proposed and discussed.
