The following is our exclusive weekly feature in which we ask our readers a news topical question and then give you a week to answer it on our various channels, compiling a diverse range of answers and opinions to present to you, our valued readers. Here are the results from our last question…

Last week, we asked you the following:

Reader Talkback Thailand: Are you optimistic about the second half of 2022 in Thailand for tourism?

Some context around this question:

As Covid-19 restrictions ease in Thailand continually, with a chance that Thailand Pass could be dropped in the near future, bars and nightlife legally reopened, and more, are you optimistic about tourism in Thailand for the back half of 2022?  With Test and Go already dropped as of May 1st, more tourists are gradually returning but many critics say further steps are needed. However, with other global issues like Russia’s war with Ukraine, China’s Covid Zero policy, and rising costs of fuel and basic goods, these stand to hurt tourism as well. Granted, anything will be better than the near complete border closures minus massive quarantine in 2020 and 2021, but what will the next six months look like?

Here is what you, our readers, had to say as our editors selected some of the most diverse responses to highlight different points of view. Obviously, we can’t post everyone’s opinion here so selected a variety of the most diverse opinions. As always, the opinions and statements below are the reader’s own and may not reflect those of TPN media. There have been minor edits for spelling and grammar only:

Chris-Reopen the bars with no curfew and tourism will return quickly

Jimmy-Drop the masks and the remaining Covid regulations then it has a chance.

-=-=-=-=-=-=

Jo-The monkeypox is coming, next scam ahead, it doesn’t look good for the world’s economy.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Roger-Songkran 2024

-=-=-=-=-==-=

Blake B-I am absolutely NOT saying what the government should or shouldn’t do per tourism but the volume of tourism will vary significantly according to what the government does or doesn’t do to encourage it…

-=-=-=-==-=–

Cass I-With Russia and China out of the picture, their main focus seems to be on Indians. This may be a difficult sell.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

T.P.-Until China ends zero covid, the biggest Thai tourism base, things will be subpar.

-=-=-==-=-=-=-

Steve C-Well let’s put it like this the Chinese won’t be coming and that was the main customer before

-=-=-==-=-=-

John OT-There a chance, albeit small, that Chinese tourism will be allowed in November. Let’s hope.

-=-=-=-=-=–=

David N-Should focus on UK and UK clients. That is where quality tourists and big spenders are, not India, Russia, China, etc. Also, stop dual pricing, price control bar prices (beer should be locked around 60 baht max, Ladydrinks 100) and tourists will pour back.
