Laotian suspect arrested with fake gun in Chonburi gold shop robbery

  A Laotian suspect has been arrested within ten hours after using a fake gun and robbing a gold shop in Mueang Chonburi.

The Don Hualor Police in Mueang Chonburi was notified of the robbery from a gold shop on Nong Yai Rak Road in the Na Pa sub-district at 6:30 P.M. yesterday (May 10th). They arrived at the gold shop and checked CCTV footage.

The suspect had posed as a customer and asked to see gold items before using an item similar to a gun to threaten staffers at the gold shop. The suspect snatched several gold items before speeding away on a motorbike.

This morning, (May 11th), a team from the Don Hualor Police revealed the news of the arrest of the suspect to the press this morning. They have arrested Mr. Kamjan Ratchsombat, 23, a Laotian national who is a photographer. He was arrested at a hotel in Mueang Chonburi while he was with his girlfriend. Seized from him were 4 gold necklaces worth more than 80,000 baht and a fake gun.

Kamjan reportedly admitted to the police, “I had to pay for some debts and was under a lot of pressure. I had sold some stolen gold items for more than 40,000 baht and paid for the debt and was planning to escape to Laos, which had just reopened its borders.”

Kamjan is facing charges of robbery and was caught, according to Don Hualor Police, with the assistance of CCTV and tips from the public.
