Laos has announced the country’s reopening to fully vaccinated foreign tourists without any mandatory testing requirements, effective on Monday, May 9th.
According to Laotiantimes, the new measures were set up after the number of Covid-19 cases in the country had significantly decreased. Therefore, the National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control and the government of Laos have jointly announced the entry relaxation, which will be effective tomorrow, including the following:
Fully vaccinated foreigners or Lao citizens carrying a vaccination certificate are allowed to enter Laos without conducting any health screening or testing for Covid-19 upon arrival by land, air, or water.
Non-vaccinated arrivals, including Lao nationals, foreigners, and Lao residents aged 12 years and over, must conduct a self-administered ATK testing, not more than 48 hours prior to departure and present the negative results to the authorities upon arrival.
Foreigners who were found to be infected with Covid-19 when traveling in Laos are responsible for their own costs of medical treatments.
Apart from the arrival measures, the Lao government also announced the reopening of entertainment venues and karaoke lounges nationwide under the strict preventive measures for Covid-19 Coronavirus.
The reopening also results in the reopening of Thai-Lao border checkpoints in northeastern provinces which will also be effective tomorrow. Both Thai and Lao travelers will be allowed to travel to another country but they must proceed with mandatory entry registration through ‘Thailand Pass’ once they are traveling/returning to the Kingdom of Thailand. People entering from Laos who are not Thai nationals (or don’t have a work permit/social security) are also required to have Covid-19 insurance at the coverage of at least 10,000 USD.
