May 4th marks the Coronation Day in Thailand which the government has announced as a public holiday in 2019 to honor the day that the reigning king, King Maha Vajiralongkorn, was crowned.
The three-day coronation ceremony of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, or King Rama X of the Chakri dynasty, took place on the morning of May 4th, 2019, and ended on May 6th.
The King had ascended to the throne as the King of Thailand in 2016, followed a mourning period for King Bhumibol Adulyadej Rama XI, but the official ceremony did not take place until 2019.
As one of the national holidays, government offices, including Immigration, many businesses, and schools are closed.
