Bang Lamung —
Hundreds of domestic tourists flooded into Pattaya and Jomtien over the past three days to spend a vacation at Jomtien and Pattaya Beach over the three-day labor day weekend, which gave many Thai people an extra day off work.
Sunday, May 1st, was Thailand’s National Labor Day, while yesterday, May 2nd, was the government holiday for the occasion. TPN reporters stationed in Bang Lamung, Chonburi, reported that traffic on the Motorway Road (route 7) leading into Pattaya was relatively congested, with cars lining up for several kilometers. The Sukhumvit-Pattaya Road also had heavy traffic on all three routes including North Pattaya, Central Pattaya, and South Pattaya, especially at the intersections.
As for the tourism atmosphere on this public holiday weekend, TPN reporters noticed that Jomtien Beach became packed with mostly domestic tourists who were relaxing on the beach benches or sitting on their mats, resulting in bad traffic on the beachside roads as well.
According to umbrella vendors and food sellers on Jomtien Beach, the tourists really helped them with their finances, which they were sincerely grateful for.
Additionally, with the lifting of Test and Go on May 1st, which previously required international tourists to take a Covid-19 test to enter the country and risk an expensive and time-consuming mandatory quarantine if positive, even if vaccinated and asymptomatic, hopes are high that many international tourists will begin to return as well to Pattaya and Jomtien in the near future.
